This summer is certainly looking a lot different from how it used to in previous years, no thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic. The rest of the year is shaping up to offer more of the same. Fortunately, people have gotten creative and are finding ways to still keep life as exciting as possible. Their solution to lockdown-induced cabin fever? Turning to the internet and making different activities available online.
Here are some events in Dublin, CA to check out even while you’re stuck at home. They’re a great way to stay in touch with the community—and even with the rest of the world—and learn new things, too.
Online bike workshops
Bike East Bay is offering a series of free online workshops on biking. Take an hour-long bike safety check webinar on September 12 or learn the basics of bike commuting on September 16. Two-hour urban cycling webinars will also be held on September 19 and 27. There’s also information about biking during the COVID-19 pandemic on their website, as well.
Virtual food drives
Even while sheltering in place, one can still help out those who are in need. Starting September 19, you can donate to various organizations that are helping to provide food to Tri-Valley residents who are grappling with food insecurity. Check out the websites of groups like the Alameda County Food Bank, the Children’s Emergency Food Bank, the Open Heart Kitchen, and the Senior Support Program of the Tri-Valley for information on how to help.
The 2020 “Nature in Our Own Backyard” Photo Contest
If you’re the kind who likes going out on hikes or walks in the park and is very much into capturing the beauty of nature around you, then this contest is for you. It’s time to whip out your camera and show off the natural beauty of Dublin.
The photo contest is open to all photographers, whether they are Dublin residents or not, for as long as the subjects of their photos are nature spots, flora, and fauna of Dublin. Just make sure there aren’t any people in the shots. The top four winners will receive attractive prizes, including cash and official recognition from the city. Submission is on or before September 26. Check out the contest guidelines on Dublin’s official website.
“Beyond Breath” meditation class
These unusual times can make anyone feel more anxious than usual. Believe us when we say that you are not alone and that there are ways to help you cope. One option is this 75-minute workshop that teaches breathing exercises for better stress and anxiety management. The class is offered by the Art of Living Center For Yoga and Meditation.
